 Volunteer at Your Child's School

Why let Junior have all the fun? You can transition back to school too. Volunteer to help at your child’s school. Not only will you become a part of their education, you will get to keep an eye on them as well! Find a position that fits you and call your child's school to find how to sign up.

 

Classroom Mother/Father: Classroom mother’s / father’s have to commit to being pretty involved in their child’s classroom. They are responsible for activities such as helping out the teacher on many aspects such as field trips, class parties, setting up materials for class use, decorating the bulletin board, helping out at assemblies. This position immensely helps out the teacher and requires help both during and after school hours.

 

Recess (or Lunchroom) Monitor: Most school’s let parents sign up for recess duty, which is good because you can sign up as little or as much as you want. The responsibilities include monitoring lunch and recess, making sure students to eat and play safely, and making sure students follow rules and reporting them to principal if rules are broken.

 

Library Aide:Helps the librarian out in the library with nonprofessional work such as shelving books, organizing library materials, setting up the library for classes, and checking out books. This job will usually have you scheduled as to what times you will be working—generally you will have to be available for one or more days a week the whole school year.

 

Field Trip Chaperone: Chaperoning field trips is a great way for you to become involved in your child’s school for one day a time once a year or as many opportunities presented to you by your child’s teacher. As a chaperone you will be responsible for the safety, welfare, and conduct of all students at all times on a field trip or activity. You will also be in charge of maintaining emergency medical releases, contact information, and signed parent permission slips, as well as monitor the behavior of the students at all times and make sure they are following school rules.

 

Fundraising Committee Member:Help plan, work, or clean up at various fundraisers at your child’s school throughout the year. There are many different jobs and responsibilities you could help with, depending upon how much time you wish to commit to.

 

Homework Hotline Operator: If your child’s school has a homework hotline offer to help the teacher field calls or respond to email to help with homework / test prep questions. If they don't have one...volunteer to start one!

 

Book Fair Volunteer: Volunteer for a day or two at your child’s book fair. Responsibilities include setting up, replenishing books, talking student orders, working cash register, and helping kids choose books.

 

PTA Member:The PTA (Parent Teacher Association) requires a huge commitment and responsibility both during and after school hours. Traditionally, The PTA is composed of teachers, parents, or legal guardians. The PTA works to support the school's educational goals, to provide a safe and healthy learning environment, to enrich student’s learning experience, and to enhance the mutual understanding among the parents, teachers, and the board of education. There are various different positions in the PTA. Contact your school to see what positions are currently available.
